pondering about type

i’ve been nostalgic today. well, not the whole day, but just recently. it really doesn’t matter though now does it. i’m sitting here waiting for some files to burn onto a disc and started thinking about typography. i’m thinking about how type has evolved in such a short period of time. now, i say this but really it has been awhile. i go to the store and see these devices like kindels and electronic books and am just like “why?” i love technology just like the next person, but whatever happend to good old fashioned type on a page? i have some old letterpress stuff of my grandfathers. this is how he did it when he was a printer. i mean, sure, that was some years ago, but not really if you think of “the big picture.” it’s like technology is just going faster and faster and faster that by the time us 20-something and 30-something’s kids are grown up they will be experience typography in a whole new different way. what will it be? i don’t know. it’s just, i am a huge fan of print. i guess you can call me a hypocrite since i try to do my part in saving the environment as well. there is something about it though. the smell of the ink, the texture, the form. when will that die? print is still around us tremendously, but slowly we’re seeing electronic devices in replace of books, magazines, even the newspaper. i guess right now i don’t know where i stand. i think it’s a great idea that we’re using less resources, but i guess i just like the “good ole’ days.” i don’t know…this can go on for a long time, but i’m going to stop it here. my files are done burning.
